Behind the Design: How La Cabaña Came to Life in Miramar, Florida
Mins
La Cabaña, Pinnacle Housing’s newest community in Miramar, Florida, is a story of balance; one that honors the familiar warmth of the past while embracing the clarity of modern design. For Jewel Toned Interiors, this project represents more than beautiful spaces. It reflects the kind of collaboration that strengthens communities and creates environments where people can truly thrive.
We sat down with our team to share a behind-the-scenes look at how La Cabaña was envisioned, designed, and brought to life.
How did this project first come to the JTI team?
This is our first time working with Pinnacle Housing. A colleague of Joy’s introduced us to our point of contact via email in 2021. Then, in 2022, our former Studio Coordinator, Devon Atkins, met the same contact at the Miramar Construction Contractors Fair. These early introductions sparked the relationship, and we’re thrilled to be completing our first of hopefully many projects with this outstanding team.
What was the original design vision?
The vision for La Cabaña centered on creating a place where residents could feel both comfort and pride. Pinnacle housing wanted a community that would welcome active seniors while also remaining relevant and timeless for the years ahead. Our team responded by pairing softened palettes and tactile materials with clean architectural lines, weaving nostalgia with a modern sensibility.
How did collaboration influence the process?
“Partnership was key from day one. Pinnacle Housing’s openness to new ideas, paired with the commitment of their in-house build team, allowed us to align on material choices, layouts, and value-engineering decisions early in the process”. - Karissa
“Collaboration and communication were at the heart of every decision, allowing the design, construction, and management teams to bring to life a multifamily community that truly prioritizes its residents.” - Suzette
This thoughtful collaboration ensured we could deliver spaces that not only look beautiful but also support the needs of residents and their families.
How did you approach the design of the common spaces?
Shared areas became a cornerstone of the design because they help set the tone for daily life in the community. “The lobby lounge was designed to feel serene and welcoming, creating a strong first impression for residents and guests alike. In the elevator corridors, patterned flooring and contrasting colors provide both energy and wayfinding.
Even the public restrooms were treated with care, using organic-inspired finishes that feel more residential than institutional”. - Karissa
Were there any challenges along the way?
Designing for an intergenerational community always brings unique challenges. For Pinnacle at La Cabaña, we focused on creating amenity spaces that could adapt to different uses throughout the day. The multi-purpose room is one example, equally effective as a quiet retreat for focus work or as a lively gathering spot for neighbors to connect. This flexibility ensured that the design would serve a wide spectrum of lifestyles.
How did you design for multiple generations of residents?
“Furniture selections and spatial planning were critical. We layered in a variety of seating options to encourage both social interaction and private moments” - Karissa
The amenity areas brought a chance to energize the design with saturated color palettes that create a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere and a sense of home.
What’s your favorite design element in La Cabaña?
Our team loves the contrast between the calming lobby and Library with the spirited community room. Each tells its own story but contributes to a larger narrative: Pinnacle at La Cabaña is a place that supports rest and activity, quiet and connection. That balance is what makes the project special.
What impact do you hope La Cabaña has on the community?
Our hope is that Pinnacle at La Cabaña becomes not just a residence but a source of pride for Miramar. Every finish, color, and texture was selected to create an environment that nurtures wellbeing and invites connection. For JTI, this project reinforces our belief that design is not just about aesthetics; it’s about supporting people and uplifting the communities we serve.
Closing Reflection
Completing our first project with Pinnacle Housing has been an exciting milestone, and we’re grateful for the trust and collaboration that made La Cabaña possible. As designers, our role goes beyond creating beautiful interiors. It’s about ensuring every choice supports the lives of those who call these spaces home. Pinnacle at La Cabaña is proof of what happens when vision and community come together, and we’re proud to have played a part in shaping its story.
